Gardening Changed How I Write Copy
As it turns out, lessons in patience, grit, and stewardship can apply to
literally everything, especially brand building.
As the saying goes, “If you’re not growing, you’re dying…”
And I think that’s a load of crap. Even plants don’t believe that. Perennials hibernate for the winter. Bulbs recharge beneath the soil. Annuals grow for a season and die, but not before spreading their seed for next year’s legacy.
Not every season in business is one of growth, but every season is one of stewardship. Clients come to me in all seasons of business, from growth to plateaus to the pivots in between. What they all have in common is a desire to dig in, to understand exactly who they are, and create something downright different.
Sower of Seeds + Brewer of Teas
Well, hiiii! I’m Amanda Brashi. I’m a gardener, herbalist, and a wannabe lake lifer. As a Wisconsinite, I’m the kind of person who will hold the door for you 100 yards away (and smile REAL BIG until you get there).
My pockets are lined with twine, seed packets, and cheese stick wrappers. Open my purse, and I guarantee you’ll find at least four pens at any given moment. I rise with the sun, brew some seriously funky teas, and occasionally put soap on my cast iron…
In 7th grade, a friend dared me to write in all caps for a week—I never stopped. I love tulips almost as much as I love cosmos. Oh, and it doesn’t matter how comfortable we are, I will frantically clean my house before you come over. Double points if I apologize for the “mess.” Triple points if I refuse to let you help with the cleanup.
I Promise, I’ve Got Credentials
The Origin Story
If you’re a stickler for formalities, I will flaunt my English BA in Professional Writing & Publishing (summa cum laude). But hear me out when I say my college degree was a far cry from where my writing chops actually developed.
For as long as I’ve been a reader, I’ve been a writer. I won my first award in 8th grade with an angsty short story about a horrific car accident. An odd choice, but it must have resonated.
I wish I could say that this origin story ushered me down the pipeline of pursuing my writing career, but it did not. Plot twist: I became a hairstylist.
That hair-spray-coated fever dream spanned two years, but it wasn’t for me. I wanted to write, so I traded my shears for textbooks.
I started freelancing as a side gig to my studies. In 2020, I graduated into the tidal wave of pandemic-era freelancers and made my copywriting business official.
Since then, I’ve found my groove helping service providers write brand voice guides, thoughtful websites, and strategic newsletters (even taglines for baby onesies).
I have a reputation for making “dry” industries sound cool (I’m looking at you, construction accounting). But truly, I’m a creative sounding board for any business owner looking to clarify their message and have someone
else write it.
My Messaging Touchstones
-
Clarity is one of the most valuable things you can offer to your audience, your clients, and yourself. I help you clarify your biggest ideas and break them down into actionable steps you can apply to your immediate marketing efforts. If your message isn’t clear, it’s bound to get lost (regardless of how good it sounds).
-
Good copy should sell (obviously), but it should also support. It shapes how customers experience your brand at every touchpoint, now and into the future. My copy is a long-term asset, built by asking the right questions, solving for present problems, and aligning with your bigger vision.
-
I am not in the business of helping people market shallow, scammy offers. I believe in helping clients who, at their core, have a genuinely valuable service. You deliver it, it’s my job to help you feel confident talking
about it.
